On the bookshelf
Ok...not really on a shelf so much as scattered across my bedroom floor. Some fortune tellers can read tea leaves, supposedly - I wonder if any specialize in random book-piles?
- Still have Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet. What can I say? I knew they were keepers when I decided to spring for the hardback edition about three years back. I might as well admit, I always have two (any two) of the four within easy reach for procrastinating sleeptime.
- Georgette Heyer's Lady of Quality. I think I'm going through a sappy Regency/comedies of manner phase. Still, she's the one who invented the formula.
- Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. Various books/stories in their Liaden universe. See previous comment about sappy pseudo-Regency etc. So Alexlit told me for about five years that I should read these, and about three years ago I did, when they got reprinted by Ace. They're readable for the most part - spot on in places.
- Several of Nigella Lawson's cookbooks. Can't stand her TV shows (the camera has a tendency to focus on um, other places on her besides the part that does the talking, and it always feels like she's working really slowly) but she does write cookbooks the way I like them. With lots of pictures.

1 Comments:
I'm actually a sucker for cookbooks right now.
The one I'd like to get is Giada de Laurentis; the recipes I"ve tried from her tend to work out to some extent.
