Geekery
Just caught the new Superman movie tonight (last night? It's frickin' late and I should be in bed). Oddly, I liked it - or at least, we've been subjected to far worse comic book dreck in the theatres over the last couple of years so I came in with about the right level of expectations.
It was decent especially given my low tolerance level for Superman to begin with (Frank Miller got it right in The Dark Knight Returns. Honestly, Superman just isn't that bright - surprising for a guy whose cover is that of a journalist. Or put more politely - he's not a strategist, he's a tactician. That's why Batman whipped his sorry ass in that particular graphic novel/series).
And there were some nice touches for SF geeks. Things like quoting Clarke's Law about science/technology/magic (I dug that. No, you have no idea how much I dug that). That said, no, the actual plot wasn't terrific, the ending was a bit long (not Return of the King long but long enough, and I found Kate Bosworth unconvincing as Lois.
But wait till you see what I have to say if I see A Scanner Darkly or Watchmen (if they ever get it made. I will say this only once, so listen up. They didn't rip off The Incredibles, it was the other way around!)
Goddamn. I can't believe I'm posting about comic books. How many more weeks till training camp?

Woolly, woolly, woolly... you'd think you'd have learnt to stay away from the comic book movies already!! Batman Begins is the only one worth mentioning... and that's that.

Sin City? Not our parents' classic superhero-style comic book, but I'd have to say it was good.
With the exception of very few details, the books were used as a storyboard for the movie, so any flaws there were from Miller's original work, not as a result of the adaptation to film.
And no guy who I know saw it complained after they spotted Jessica Alba as Nancy :)
But you would be more a fan of Devon Aoki as Miho? :D
